BASIC LEAGUE ORGANIZATION

A. The Team -- A team consists of a minimum of five players, although it is wise to have at least seven, and a maximum of eight. Each team will have a captain.

B. The Team Captain -- The Team Captain is an individual who is usually elected by fellow teammates. A team may elect a new Team Captain by a simple majority at any time. The Team captain must have a phone, and an email account. The Team Captain's duties include:

  1. Verifying that all team members are valid APA members of legal age, and that they are playing at the skill level that reflects their true ability.
  2. Collecting player and membership fees and forwarding them to Local League Management on a timely basis.
  3. Distributing important League information to all team members..
  4. Being responsible for having his team at the appointed place and on time.
  5. Being in charge of his team during matches and ensuring that all rules concerning etiquette and sportsmanship are observed.
  6. Posting League information at his home location when requested.
  7. Making sure all proper scorekeeping procedures are followed and that the scoresheets are submitted on time.
  8. Communicating with Local League Management.  The Team Captain, and not the players, should represent the team.
C. The Division -- A division consists of a number of teams (from 6 to 16) competing with each other on a set schedule. In some instances, a division may start with only four teams. But, a six team division is the smallest that can be recognized by the APA.

D. Fees -- Annual APA Membership Dues - You must be a current member of the APA in order to participate in any APA event. Some events take place over a period of many months and current membership must be obtained in order to continue and remain eligible. APA annual dues are $25 and annual memberships expire December 31. For those members who join after August 15, the annual membership dues will be prepared as follows:

  1. After August 15, members still pay $25 to join, but will be able to renew for only $15 the following year.
  2. All players entitled to a $15 renewal must renew no later that March 1 or the first night they play, whichever occurs first. After that date , only full $25 memberships will be accepted.
Please give your membership dues and your APA application or renewal slip to your League Operator who will forward them to APA headquarters. Please allow six weeks for delivery of your membership card and other membership materials.

Weekly Fee -- There is a weekly fee per team.  The entire weekly fee is due regardless of how many players are on the roster or how many players played during the match.

E. Calendar -- There are three sessions during a League year, beginning with the summer, including the fall, and ending with the Spring session followed by the national Team Championships.

F. Scheduling -- The number of teams per division per division can vary between 6 and 16 teams and the number of weeks per session can vary between 12 and 15 weeks plus two weeks of playoffs.

G. Scoring -- Matches are played head-to-head, one team member versus a designated opponent from the opposing team. There are five matches each League occasion. In 8-ball, every individual match is worth one point. A team can win a maximum of five points on any given occasion. The points are totaled over the course of a schedule. the teams with the most points go into the post-season play. The team with the most points is not the winner, but is seeded in the Play-offs. the winner of the Play-offs is the Division Champion for that session, and also gains eligibility to the National Team Championship.

H. Trophies and Awards -- Trophies, plaques, cash and possibly other awards will be awarded to each individual on the Division Championship Team each session.  The Division Champion is the team that wins the play-offs, not the team with the most points at the end of the end of session.
